Batch remove photo metadata on iPhone
Preparing a listing, family album or travel post often means checking more than one image. Clear processes batches of up to 20 selected photos and creates separate cleaned copies.
What Clear removes
Clear removes location, camera, capture-date and supported EXIF metadata from supported images. Its implementation clears GPS, EXIF, TIFF, IPTC and PNG metadata dictionaries that ImageIO can write for the selected source.
That wording is deliberate: image formats and third-party software can contain fields outside those supported dictionaries. Clear does not promise to erase every conceivable data block.
How the batch workflow works
- Select up to 20 photos with the system photo picker.
- Review which files contain location, camera, date or supported EXIF details.
- Create cleaned copies on the iPhone.
- Save or share the copies; the originals remain unchanged.
Why create copies?
Your originals retain information that helps Photos organize images by time and place. Exported copies are intended for the sharing task, so you do not have to sacrifice your private library's organization.
When Apple's built-in control is enough
For one photo, or when you only need to withhold its location, use Apple Photos. Apple explains the controls in its Personal Safety User Guide.
A cleaned file is not anonymous
Faces, addresses, reflections and landmarks can still identify a person or place. Metadata cleaning is one privacy step, not a complete anonymity system.
